On this blog, when we talk about being authentic and walking the authentic path, it’s about something very different than what most authors write about on the subject. Most talk about being authentic as aligning with your true passions and values, speaking your mind and such. That’s important, authentic and good, no doubt and shouldn’t be discounted in any way.

But, much of what is written on the subject is about strengthening the ego-self, the personality, rather than rising above to a more inclusive and amazing existence. Being authentic, on this blog, is more about aligning with your higher self or what is most divine within you – that which can be accessed beyond the ego-mind. It’s more about losing the ego and going bigger, – embracing your nondual self, and all the amazingness that entails.

I came across the lyrics of John Mayer’s “No Such Thing” song last week. Yes, I know it is a very old song, lol. And, although I can’t speak for what he truly meant when he wrote the piece, I couldn’t help but think that these words had to be about how astonishing and fabulous it is once you drop the ego-mind (for the most part) in favor of truly embracing your larger, nondual nature. For me, that is what this song is about. I really loved running across these lyrics and love what they mean to me. So, I thought I’d share them with you to ponder this week. Let me know your thoughts!!

No Such Thing by John Mayer:

“Welcome to the real world”, she said to me
Condescendingly
Take a seat
Take your life
Plot it out in black and white
Well I never lived the dreams of the prom kings
And the drama queens
I’d like to think the best of me
Is still hiding
Up my sleeve

They love to tell you
Stay inside the lines
But something’s better
On the other side

I want to run through the halls of my high school
I want to scream at the
Top of my lungs
I just found out there’s no such thing as the real world
Just a lie you’ve got to rise above

So the good boys and girls take the so called right track
Faded white hats
Grabbing credits and
Maybe transfers
They read all the books but they can’t find the answers
And all of our parents
They’re getting older
I wonder if they’ve wished for anything better
While in their memories
Tiny tragedies

They love to tell you
Stay inside the lines
But something’s better
On the other side

I want to run through the halls of my high school
I want to scream at the
Top of my lungs
I just found out there’s no such thing as the real world
Just a lie you’ve got to rise above

I am invincible
I am invincible
I am invincible
As long as I’m alive

I want to run through the halls of my high school
I want to scream at the
Top of my lungs
I just found out there’s no such thing as the real world
Just a lie you’ve got to rise above

I just can’t wait til my ten year reunion
I’m gonna bust down the double doors
And when I stand on these tables before you
You will know what all this time was for
Blessings!
