And, of course, we feel emotionally better when we are fit, healthy and strong. Everything is interconnected. Our emotional health and physical health are really one in the same. So, maybe we’re not so far off topic after all. In fact, I may do more articles on being authentically healthy, slim and fit for life. It does feel good!
The reason I like this particular green drink is because it is tart, yet green tasting. It’s creamy yet it has very few calories, and it fills me up until mid-morning. The grapefruit provides vitamin C. Kale is by far one of the most nutrient rich foods on the planet. It contains 206% of our daily requirement of vitamin A, 684% of vitamin K, most of the B vitamins and many others the body needs. The avocado provides good fats. I put in the chia seeds because they swell a bit in the stomach and act as an appetite suppressant. But, they are also a nutrient dense super food. The green apple adds tartness in addition to the grapefruit and it is a great anti-fungal.
INGREDIENTS
- 2 stalks of celery
- 1/2 cup water (or coconut water or unsweetened almond milk)
- 1/2 of a grapefruit (peeled and de-seeded)
- 1 1/2 cups kale, loosely packed, stems removed (spinach is a good substitute as well)
- 1/4 of an avocado
- 1 teaspoon chia seeds
- 1/2 green apple (de-seeded)
INSTRUCTIONS
- Add the water to a high-power blender and toss in the rest of the washed ingredients.
- Whirl it up until it is liquid, then enjoy!
You can play with this basic formula. For instance if you don’t have a green apple, put in a half of a banana. Or try dandelion greens or spinach instead of the kale. I sometimes throw a few almonds, flax seeds or hemp seeds in before whirling it up. Let me know what you think. Blessings!
